Inhale Deeply... Exhale Slowly... Smile, it's World Meditation Day

Meditation is not only for monks, mystics or masters. Not just for people who can ensconce themselves in a spiritual retreat for days. At its' essence, it's a simple yet profoundly powerful tool available to absolutely everyone. An effective way to escape the hustle and bustle of life, recoup energy, verve and passion as well as promote great health. Even briefly.

World Meditation Day is on May 20th - so why not take a few deep breaths and experience the benefits of this age-old and popular practice?

Science shows us what many religious masters have long preached: meditation helps to reduce stress, gain health, strengthen spiritual connection, help you live in and relish the present moment. The repairing effects of meditation on the body can be compared to a restful night's sleep. You just get more done and are happier when you’re relaxed and focused post meditating.

Effective meditation comes in different guises. You may choose to lie down on a bed, sit straight backed on the floor or in a chair, meditate while you’re out walking in the greenery of nature.

Remember at its' most basic level, there is no right or wrong way to meditate - it’s all about what best suits you.

Wherever you choose to meditate, take a few long deep breaths and concentrate on both the inbreath and outbreath. Allow your thoughts to drain from your mind. If they pop back in, gently release them again. Ensure that your shoulders are relaxed. Smile gently to relax any tension in the jaw muscles. Keep breathing gently in and out until you feel an overall sense of calm. Then continue with your day.
